

These pictures could be used in a science lesson about what living things need in order to survive. You could ask the students questions like: List 3 things that both the flowers and the horses need to live and Is there anything that horses need to survive that plants don't?
Then have the students search the Internet for three websites that they could use to answer the questions.
This would be good for third graders. It teaches them science information and helps them learn to use the Internet for research!

I think that this exercise you have created for students is very well thought out. They way that you connect two separate images together to create one lesson is a great idea. By allowing students to explore the similarities and differences between the horse and the flowers is a way to get children thinking outside of the box. Also, by including the internet students can begin to develop their navigation skills and knowledge on finding information on the Internet. Another question that you could ask would be what do flowers need to survive that horses don't? Or another question could be are flowers a food source for horses?
I really like that you are comparing two living things that need different things to survive. It may take some previous knowledge or explanation for the children (they will likely be confused that they both are alive, but require different things). If you have the student find their own pictures on the internet they can work on their image searching skills, or you can have them take pictures using a camera and load them to the computer to allow them to have more of a hands on experience.
I really like the compare and contrast aspect of this lesson. I think it sounds really interesting, especially for children of that age. I also love how you have them search for places on the internet that this information can be found. Students need to be able to identify reliable resources, even at that young age.
This is a great idea. I really like how you integrated the use of the internet. Maybe you could also make them find out if there are any other animals or plants that fall under the categories of needing what a horse or flower needs to survive. Would be interesting to see what might fall under those categories.
I really like this idea!!! I think kids would have a really fun time and be interested in what the two living things have common. You could also have them do a little power point presentation in groups or even alone to show comparisons and contrasts. Good job!!
